Near 200 year heritage

Our Story

When (now) Cardinal Burke was Bishop of the La Crosse diocese, he was made aware of a 100-acre plot of land nestled on the banks of the Chippewa River. It was made known to him that this land had historical significance to the local Catholic church. For nearly 200 years, this land was occupied by Catholic settlers, likely due to its bountiful natural resources along with access to the Chippewa River. He purchased the land for the purpose of preservation, and since then, the land changed ownership from the La Crosse diocese to a non-profit group called Round Hill Inc.

Still governed by the same spirit of Bishop Burke’s desires, we make this land available to a new form of Catholic settler.

Our Mission

Camp Angelus at Round Hill is a sacred refuge for Catholic families and groups faithful to the magisterium of the Catholic Church. We are dedicated to Catholic evangelization, catechesis, and conservation through God’s majesty. Our land…

  • Operates under the protection of the Holy Family, Our Lady of Fatima, Saint Kateri Tekakwitha, and the North American martyrs and saints, in honor of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
  • Dates back to the early roots of the Catholic faith in North America and the Diocese of La Crosse, and was founded by His Eminence Cardinal Raymond L. Burke.
  • Offers a 100% pro-life vision of conservation.
  • Strives to help youth know and love God through the goodness and beauty of His creation, and provides Catholic youth an opportunity for service to others.
  • Provides a place separate from the increasingly secularized American public square, while preparing Catholics to re-enter the square and reassert a public profession of the one true Faith.
  • Makes available camping, lodging, hiking, canoeing, fishing, birdwatching, and other wholesome outdoor activities in a Catholic cultural environment free of the increasing coarseness and immorality of modern American culture.
  • Endeavors to preserve the Catholic and natural history and culture of the lower Chippewa River and surrounding area, including the Tiffany Wildlife Refuge.
  • Preserves traditional Catholic prayers and devotions such as the Holy Rosary, Angelus, Stations of the Cross, and the veneration of Saints.
