When (now) Cardinal Burke was Bishop of the La Crosse diocese, he was made aware of a 100-acre plot of land nestled on the banks of the Chippewa River. It was made known to him that this land had historical significance to the local Catholic church. For nearly 200 years, this land was occupied by Catholic settlers, likely due to its bountiful natural resources along with access to the Chippewa River. He purchased the land for the purpose of preservation, and since then, the land changed ownership from the La Crosse diocese to a non-profit group called Round Hill Inc.
Still governed by the same spirit of Bishop Burke’s desires, we make this land available to a new form of Catholic settler.
